Star fruit is known as "fueng," or "gear,"in Thai. It was most-likely named this due to its spoke-like shape when sliced cross sectionally. This fruit is eaten ripe as a snack or a desert, but, when still green, tart and unripe, can be used in more savory cooked dishes.
